Brea, CA - January 17, 2017 / ‐‐ In late 2016 Apple released their revamped MacBook Pro with Thunderbolt 3, “The USB-C that Does it All” and sales have been extremely good, as most new Apple products tend to be. One complaint, however, is that Apple has done away with the standard USB Type-A ports that many of us have become familiar with. There seems to be two reasons for these complaints. First, most people still have USB products that they would like to connect via the old USB Type-A cables and secondly, there are very few Thunderbolt 3 or USB Type-C options currently available. You see, the MacBook Pro ports will accept either Thunderbolt 3 or USB Type-C devices. The difference is that Thunderbolt 3 products have the capacity to transfer files much faster than USB Type-C products but they also tend to be more expensive and therefore marketed towards professional users. So, what is the average consumer to do?

Well, Akitio, makers of premium, high quality external storage solutions including Thunderbolt 3 and USB products has come to the rescue once again with a USB Type-C enclosure designed for use with the new MacBook Pro line-up, the Neutrino U3.1. In addition, since 2017, we now include a USB-C adapter for all our NT2 U3.1 RAID enclosures, so you can use it straight out of the box.

The 2-Bay Akitio NT2 U3.1 is a two bay external drive enclosure designed for use with one or two 3.5” hard drives, thereby allowing for capacities up to 16TB. The NT2 U3.1 will allow users to transfer files at speeds of up to 450 MB/second with two hard drives installed in RAID 0.

The Neutrino U3.1 is a one bay, aluminum drive enclosure built for 2.5” hard drives or SSD’s. The Neutrino U3.1 is also no slouch when it comes to speed reaching transfer speeds of up to 520 MB/second with an SSD installed. A recent article on 9 to 5 Mac at https://9to5mac.com/?s=Neutrino+U3.1 gives high praise to the Neutrino U3.1.

A major advantage of both is that they are extremely low cost solutions. The NT2 U3.1 is selling for $85.99 on Amazon while the Neutrino U3.1 is even more affordable at just $49.99 on Amazon. Just add the drives of your choice or drives that you already have and you’re ready to go. So, if you are looking for a low cost external storage solution for your new 2016 Apple MacBook Pro with the latest Thunderbolt 3/USB-C technology then check out the Akitio NT2 U3.1 and the Neutrino U3.1 at https://www.akitio.com/portable-storage/neutrino-u31.
